I have a PhD in social anthropology from University College London. My thesis, based on long-term fieldwork in 1996-98, was a study of 'old media' and nation-building in Sarawak (East Malaysia). I then developed and taught the MA in anthropology at SNSPA in Bucharest and have also taught anthropology at SOAS and the City Literary Institute in London. From 2000-2001 I was a postdoctoral fellow working on media anthropology at the Academy of Art and Design (HfG) in Karlsruhe (Germany). My current research with the Department of Cultural Studies (bik) of the University of Bremen focuses on e-government and ethnicity in Kuala Lumpur (West Malaysia).
